The Archdiocese Missionary Cooperation Appeal is August 17/18. Greg Darr, a Maryknoll missioner, will be with us to talk about the work of Maryknoll missionaries in East Africa. There will be a second collection to support their continued success. Envelopes are available at the entrances of Church.
Greg Darr is a native of Chisago City, MN, and a 1990 graduate of the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining Maryknoll, Greg worked with programs serving rural low-income families in north Florida and the chronically homeless of inner-city Philadelphia. In 1993, Greg was sent to Kenya, East Africa, as a Maryknoll lay missioner where he served with a small justice and peace program helping communities broken by violent conflict to develop local efforts in peace and reconciliation. Greg has also worked with refugees and immigrants from other East Africa nations as well as Haiti and Vietnam. Greg currently directs the mission promotion efforts of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers in the Upper Midwest.
Maryknoll - The Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America - was established by the U.S. bishops in 1911 to witness the Gospel among the peoples and cultures of foreign lands. Maryknollers share the Good News, not in words alone, but in practical and concrete actions - feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving shelter to the homeless, comforting the oppressed. Maryknoll depends entirely upon the prayers and support of its friends; we serve with profound gratitude for the generosity of our benefactors. While at the parish, Greg will be happy to talk with anyone interested in learning more about mission life or perhaps becoming an overseas minister.
